Privacy Policy
Last updated: 14 October 2026
This policy explains what personal data Campaign Theory collects when you use www.campaigntheory.uk, why we collect it, who we share it with and what your rights are. We've tried to keep it short and in plain English.
1. Who we are
Campaign Theory is run from Glasgow, Scotland, and is the data controller for the personal data described here. You can contact us about anything in this policy at [email protected] or through our contact page.
2. What we collect
If you create an account
- Your name and email address, so you can log in and so we can contact you about your account if we need to.
- Your password. This is stored in hashed form, so we never see or store it in plain text.
- The work you save, such as campaigns, briefs and tool entries, so you can come back to it, edit it and export it.
You don't need an account to read the articles or use the tools. You only need one to save your work.
When you visit the site
- Technical data such as your IP address, browser type, device and the pages you visit. Our web host records this in standard server logs, which help us keep the site secure and working.
- Analytics data collected by Google Analytics, if you agree to it. This includes the pages you view, how long you stay and roughly where in the world you are (to city level). We use it to see which tools and articles are useful.
- Advertising data collected by Google AdSense and its partners. See section 4.
3. Cookies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. We use the following:
| Type | Set by | What it's for | Needs consent? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Session cookie | Campaign Theory | Keeps you logged in while you move between pages. It's deleted when you log out or close your browser. | No (strictly necessary) |
| Consent cookie | Remembers your cookie choices so we don't ask on every page. | No (strictly necessary) | |
| Analytics cookies | Google Analytics | Count visits and show how the site is used. | Yes |
| Advertising cookies | Google and its advertising partners | Show ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure ads and, if you agree, personalise them. | Yes |
When you first visit from the UK, the EEA or Switzerland, you'll see a message asking whether you agree to non-essential cookies. You can change your mind at any time with the "Privacy and cookie settings" link that appears at the bottom of the page after you've made a choice. You can also delete or block cookies in your browser settings, although some parts of the site may not work properly if you do.
4. Advertising
We use Google AdSense to show ads. Ads help pay for the site and keep every tool and article free.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website or to other websites.
Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info or, in the UK and Europe, www.youronlinechoices.eu.
If you don't agree to personalised ads, you may still see non-personalised ads, which are based on things like the page you're reading and your general location rather than your browsing history.
To find out more about how Google uses data, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and How Google uses cookies in advertising.
5. Why we use your data (our legal basis)
- To run your account and save your work: because it's needed to provide the service you signed up for (contract).
- To keep the site secure and fix problems: because we have a legitimate interest in running a working, safe website.
- For analytics and advertising cookies: only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
We don't sell your personal data, and we don't use the work you save in your account for advertising.
6. Who we share it with
- Our web hosting provider, which stores the site and its database on our behalf.
- Google, for analytics and advertising as described above. Google may process data outside the UK. Where it does, it relies on the legal safeguards approved under UK data protection law.
- The authorities, if the law requires us to.
7. How long we keep it
- Account details and saved work: for as long as your account is open. You can delete your account at any time from Account Settings, and your campaigns and saved entries are deleted with it.
- Server logs: for a limited period set by our host, typically no more than a few months.
- Google Analytics data: for 14 months, then it's deleted automatically.
8. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- ask us to correct anything that's wrong
- ask us to delete your data
- object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use your data
- ask for your data in a portable format
- withdraw your consent to cookies at any time
To use any of these rights, email [CONTACT EMAIL]. We'll reply within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). We'd appreciate the chance to sort it out first, though.
9. Children
Campaign Theory is built for students in further and higher education. It isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. If you think a child under 13 has created an account, let us know and we'll delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of the page. If the changes are significant, we'll let account holders know by email.
